HDTV in China

HDTV (High Definition Television) is already not a new name in china. Advertisements of HDTV ready Television appeared at all kinds of medias every day. T hey flaunt oneself can display the standard HDTV. Compatible television (plasma or LCD) “720P”(progressive Scan with 1280×720 pixels) or the “1080i” (interface d with 1920×1080 pixels). In fact, in Japan and South Korea these two countries that close to China have early transmitting HDTV programs via satellite s, and we can receive their programs by using bigger size antenna in some location in china.
The first pay HDTV channel in china is called CCTV-HD ( www.tv.cn), it uses three different encrypting systems: IRDETO 、 NDS and Novel-TongFang . T his channel has been broadcasting allover Asia via the C-Band signal of Asiasat 4 satellite （ 4060/H/27500 ）.CCTV-HD has started test ing signal transmission since 1st of September 2005 and will go on air on 1st of January 2006. The channel will contains 15 hours of programs every day during the test period , and will have 18 hours of programs every day after formal broadcasting. CCTV-HD will arrange a number of high-quality contents like movies, shows and cultural events etc in this channel , and will launch another movies channel of HDTV in 2006. LIVE football game during the World Cup Soccer FIFA 2006 in Germany has already planned.
There are two ways to view the CCTV-HD in china. Of course , they need to pay the subscription fee of RMB 120 per month. . You need to purchase a Top-Set-Box for DVB-C HDTV to enjoy the program if your local Cable TV Station is transmitting the signal, not only the HDTV but also some SDTV programs. If your local Cable TV Station don't transmit the HDTV signal, then you have to buy a receiver for DVB-S HDTV and a C-band antenna. T ogethe r with this HDTV , you can receive an other 19 channels of CDM ( China DTV Media, ).
The CCTV is popularizing CCTV-HD program by working together with some Television manufacturers like Panasonic , HITACHI and Hisense etc.
There are several local TV stations in china are also plan n ing to broadcast their own HDTV channels, and HDTV will be really hot in future. I will constantly report ing those HDTV developments in China for everybody. |
